的 警察部门 is a full service police department made up of two types of uniformed officer (University Police Officers 和 安全 Officers) as well as civilian staff members. 的 Police division's tasks include:

• Providing security for people 和 property on the University campus
• Preventing 和 investigating any suspicious or criminal activities
• Ensuring the safety of students, 教师, staff 和 visitors
• Enforcing parking regulation
• Responding to alarms 和 calls for service
• Law enforcement 和 safety education

支持 services are provided to the Department of 公共安全 by non-uniformed staff who are tasked with:

• Dispatch operations
• Alarm monitoring
• Office operations
• Parking sticker 和 ticket operations

的 Fire 安全 Division is responsible for planning 和 administering the University's fire prevention 和 life safety inspection programs. This includes review of all new building construction 和 renovations to insure compliance with University fire protection st和ards 和 applicable state, 当地的, 和 national fire 和 life safety st和ards. 除了, this function is responsible for investigating the causes of fires, 爆炸, chemical hazards, accidents 和 related emergencies. Based on the investigations, Fire 安全 personnel recommend changes to affect better safety st和ards 和 to reduce recurrence of such accidents.

Weekly fire 和 safety inspections are conducted in every campus building. 也, fire exit drills are conducted in University buildings. 的 purpose of these drills is to assure that the University is as safe as possible, 和, if an emergency does occur, everyone is familiar with what actions to take.

It is the mission of the Office of Emergency Management to provide a comprehensive emergency management program that prepares the university community for all hazards 和 threats, 和 promotes disaster resilience.

After-hours Emergencies: 的 communications center maintains an on-call list of fire 和 safety, 物理设施, contract custodial staff, residence administration, student counseling, 学生生活, 等. personnel to assure appropriate response to campus emergencies at all hours. 也, in extreme cases, 公共安全 officers can assist in the delivery of an emergency message to a student, staff or 教师 member. 请联系 843-349-2911.

Motorist Assistance: Assisting motorists on campus is a service of the Department of 公共安全. It is designed to assist students, 教师, staff 和 visitors experiencing vehicle problems while at the University. 的 Department of 公共安全 will loan jumper cables, an enclosed battery jumper, unlock car doors, help with flat tires or loan a gas can. We are here to help. To request assistance call the 公共安全 office at 349-2177 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
